Monday Fun.....

Last Feb. 25, 2008 held the anniversary of Edsa One, as we all know that there will be no classes so many cadets (including me) went home for a three day vacation. I was really happy because since our Christmas break this is the 2nd time I went home. I do surely miss my family because I have been away from them for about 2 months now. It is surely my shortest time to visit my family again, but the incoming summer break will be more exciting because it
has the most number of days in all of our vacations.

Assessment Day

In our Machine Shop subject we had our first assessment on the different measuring materials like the micrometer, hand rule, vernier caliper, inside and outside caliper. The arrangment of the assessment is one by one called by Sir Cabatan. This assessment is judge by the accuracy of the cadet to get the measurement of the object, the measurement can be .10 difference to the real measurement of the object.

The Dial Indicator

We tackled about the Dial Indicator in our Machine Shop with our teacher first engineer Cabatan replacing his former classmate Sir Bong Sanchez. These dial indicators are instruments used to accurately measure a small distance. They may also be known as a Dial gauge, Dial Test Indicator (DTI), or as a "clock". They are named so because the measurement results are displayed in a magnified way by means of a dial.
Dial indicators may be used to check the variation in tolerance during the inspection process of a machined part, measure the deflection of a beam or ring under laboratory conditions, as well as many other situations where a small measurement needs to be registered or indicated. The definition of small depends on the observer however a range between 1 mm (0.040") and 50 mm (2") may be thought of as typical with a travel of 10 mm (approx 0.5") being perhaps the most common.

My BSN Gonzales's Lifeboat

This week on NTMA we had our ride on the Lifeboat. Here in NTMA I always imagine what does it feels like to board that thing above the swimming pool. But this week we made that imagination a reality. We board the lifeboat last week with the supervision of our beloved BSN Gonzales. We conducted the onboard experience per group; we have ten cadets each group that consist of a sub leader namely, me on the forward, a leader, six cadets on each side of the lifeboat for the rowing and two for the tying of the painter or called rope to the bollard. The one who is controlling rudder is sir BSN Gonzales. The one that has the hardest part in giving commands is the leader because he has to know all of the commands like oars, rest on oars, up oars etc. I enjoyed this experience because this is the first time I have ride a lifeboat and it was very exciting to have as a memory.

The Fire Seaman

This week in our Basic Safety we had a practice on how to properly enter a building on fire with a fire hose. First check the ANCI if it already connected to the fire hydrant, next is to step or check if you are going to be tripped by something inside the building, then put the NAKAGIMA on a foam state and attack the fire while ducking.
